Smeg In Farnborough

I recently bought the DVD of Red Dwarf: Series 7, only to discover that a large chunk of it was filmed within walking distance of my house.

The scenes from Episode 1 when the crew are walking through a giant wind tunnel was filmed in the famous wind tunnel over on the airfield, as are the external shots of Dallas for the Kennedy assassination scenes were filmed there too.

Episode 6: Beyond A Joke was filmed at Hawley Woods including the scene where Kryten blows up the dinner party using a tank.

My friend James Ingram has informed me that the opening scene of the 1995 Matthew McConaughey film ‘Sahara’ was filmed at Hawley Woods, as was James Bond film ‘Die Another Day’, the old ITV series ‘Soldier Soldier’ was filmed at Hawley Woods on occasions as was an episode of ‘Scrapheap Challenge’ features Hawley Lake when they made some speedboats. Meanwhile the opening battle scenes of Ridley Scott’s ‘Gladiator’ was filmed just down the road in Bourne Woods, Farnham.

Anyway, I really like Series 7 of Red Dwarf, and Chloe Annett makes the DVD worth the cover price!
